Mulder: There’s a mistake here. There’s been another agent assigned to the case.
Alex Krycek (Nicholas Lea): That would be me. Krycek. Alex Krycek.
Mulder: Skinner didn’t say anything about taking on a partner.
Krycek: It wasn’t Skinner. Actually I opened the file two hours before your request. So technically it’s my case.
Mulder: Listen, I appreciate the show-and-tell, and I don’t want you to take this personally, but I work alone. I’ll straighten things out with Skinner.
Krycek: It’s my case, Agent Mulder.
Mulder: Who are you?
X (Steven Williams): Who I am is irrelevant.
Mulder: Why are you trying to help me?
X: You think I want to be here, Agent Mulder? I don’t want to be here.
Mulder: You think Cole’s behind what’s happened?
X: I’m not here to do your thinking, Agent Mulder. All I know is Augustus Cole hasn’t slept in twenty-four years.
X: You still don’t get it, do you? Closing the X-Files, separating you and Scully was only the beginning. The truth is still out there. But it’s never been more dangerous. The man we both knew paid for that information with his life. A sacrifice I’m not willing to make.
Scully: I’m going over these reports you faxed me. They’re incredible.
Mulder: Well the military already sent troops through radioactive mushroom clouds. I guess they figured they had to top themselves, right?
Mulder: What if Cole has somehow developed the ability to project his unconscious?
Scully: Are you suggesting that Cole killed those people with telepathic images?
Scully: Sounds like your new partner is working out.
Mulder: He’s all right. He could use a little more seasoning and some wardrobe advice, but he’s more open to extreme possibilities than—
Scully: Than I was?
Mulder: Than I assumed he would be.
Dr. Girardi: What are you doing? This is insane. You can’t do this to me. You can’t hold me responsible. I was following orders, just like you.
Augustus Cole (Tony Todd): The Lord hates a lying tongue.
Dr. Girardi: It’s the truth.
Cole: Truth is what you did to us, what you made us do.
Dr. Girardi: No one made you do anything. You volunteered.
Cole: The righteous shall rejoice when he sees vengeance.
Cole: I’m tired.
Mulder: I know.
Cole: No man, you don’t know!
Krycek: Sir if I could recommend something. You’ll see that I’ve outlined several counter-measures.
CSM (William B. Davis): What about Scully?
Krycek: Reassigning them to other sections seems only to have strengthened their determination. Scully’s a problem. A much larger problem than you described.
CSM: Every problem has a solution.
